In the beginning, as a new year 1 student I was excited on embarking this new journey of learning Social Media Marketing(SMM). Upon hearing the module SMM, it interested me the most from the other modules that I take. I was really really keen to be able to learn new things from this module. However, on the first lesson, after knowing that we had to form groups and look for companies to help promote and advertise their company, I was taken aback. It was something new for all of us. We did not want to let this shock hinder our progress and we started searching for companies.
I contributed by suggesting two companies located at Bugis+ to work with, Lavina and Le Bunny Bleu respectively. They were new companies that are new in the market so if we were to offer our services to help them promote and advertise their company for them without paying, I knew that they would not mind. Also we did search for other companies, as we would prefer to select and work with a certain company as a group. It would be pretty selfish if I had force them to select the recommendations that I had made.
At the end of the day, we decided to go with Jingting's recommendation of Ned's Crepe. We felt that they had great potential but they lack advertisements and due to its location, not many would know of its presence. Ned's Crepe which is located at the heart of Bugis Street are able to attract many young customers as Bugis Street is filled with shops ranging from accessories to clothing. When we started working with Ned's Crepe we were very nervous, as we were afraid of the expectations that were to be set by the manager and consultant. But turns out that all of us were wrong, after this few months of working with them, they were really understanding and they did not set any expectations for us to meet. They worked with what we provided and told us how to improve them from time to time. We would always sit down and discuss together about any new ideas or plans that we are interested to execute.
I also contributed by posting regularly of Facebook and coming up with some ideas for the posters. As the four of us were not that excellent with Photoshop, even after Syafiq teaching us the basics we decided that we all brainstorm for ideas together and Syafiq would help create the posters for the manager and consultant to access it. As for the reward card, I came out with the suggestion whereby customers after buying three crepes would be able entitled to a 50 cents discount, and after buying six crepes, they would be entitled to a free crepe and after buying nine crepes, they would then be entitled to a free meal. As the consultant wanted us to create a reward card which would be engaging and interactive, I used this idea which I had seen from many other reward cards from various companies. Then, as a group, we decided to implement this idea and tweak it a bit before finally deciding on how our reward card system would be like and how the overall reward card would look like.

Questions 2
The Social Media Analytics tool that will allow me to
measure and analyse social data related to the Ned’s crepes is the Facebook
insighs.I will generate the two report from the period 22
May to 22 June and from 28 June to 28 July.Firstly, I would like to give the overview report
for the recent post.
Our latest post is our re-updating photo of Ned’s crepes store aims to remind again the location of our shop and promote our product simultaneously.According to the overview report, the post is posted on 10 Aug.it has reached 103 which means that 103 people has seen the post. However It has only engage d 14 people to click and that means only 14 people to click and see the post and at the same time know about the store location. I think that it might be because this photo is only to tell the public about our shop location and it’s nothing special for them and this resulting that they have only 4 likes on this post. It’s very obviously if compare to the second post, which is posted on 08 Aug.This is a post about the ‘Selamat Hari Raya’wishes to all the muslim friends. This post has reached 221,22 people to click inside the post and 11 people likes the post. Thus, through this analysis I know that among the people who are click and like our post had already received our wished and saw our post.
Below is the report between the period 23 May to 23 June
As seen above, the post which is about the
meaningful quotes start from 05 May had reached 919 has seen this post and 25
click and see the post but we only got 5 likes. However, as compare to the
picture posted on 09 June which is a picture of a cute dog(a quotes make as a
title). Although it has only has 190 reach but it is able to engage people as
there have 43 people click the post and 9 likes for this post. So ,after do the
analysis I found out that not all quotes is able to attract people to like and
see and if have a chance I prefer that can put the meaningful quotes into Ned’s
crepes products and promote the products at the same time.
Next is the data showing of the last 7 days (5
Aug-11 Aug)
For the page likes ,Ned’s crepes has 943 people
liking and 4 new page likes. It shown the percentage 33.3%increasing.For the
post reach, it has achieved 284 reach ,but it shown a decrease of 82.3%from
last weeks .From the graph above can see that the last week posts is more than
this week posts and result in decreasing trends meaning that lesser people
seeing the posts in this week. Next , is the engagement tab, there has 43 people
are engaged but 64.5% decrease from last week. For this whole week, Ned’s crepes
has 13 likes,1comments and 1 share for all those posts although there has 92
post clicks. On 29 June Ned’s crepes had posted a video about the process of
making crepes and this would definitely engaged people and I think that is the reason
last week did better than this week.
This is the page likes start from 22 May to 22 June
Now the total page like is 944.But
between the period 22 May to 22 June it has 975.So it shown
a decreasing treads of the likes.
The graph below shown the Net likes of the Ned’s
crepes
So the Net like shown the what changed of the Ned’s
crepes likes. Here have the people liking the post and unlike the post. On 04
June ,there has 643 organic likes as shown on the peak of the graph. After that
at the same day, there are also have people start to unlike the posts. On 05 June,
there have the negative result which is -18 meaning that there have people
unlike the posts.
This is the page and tab visits. This shown the
number of times that page tabs was viewed.Ned’s crepes has their timeline
viewed the most on 04 Jun .I think around the period Ned’s crepes still haven
has any promotion and to prevent the page ‘dead’.i think that’s the time my
team and I very active posting some product pictures and meaningful quotes on
the timeline. The admin tabs, photo tabs ,info tab and the likes tabs are the
least visits.
The below graph shown the where the page likes came
from.
According to the graph above, I found out that most
of the page likes of Ned’s crepes is came from seeing our Ned’s crepes Facebook
page .There also have a small portion fans used their phone and liked Ned’s
crepes page.
This is the post reach of Ned’s crepes.04 Jun has
the highest post reach which is 868 meaning that there are 868 people saw the
Ned’s crepes post.
This graph shown that the data about likes, comments
and shares. As showing above normally most of the people would like the Ned’s crepes post.Ned’s
crepe also have people sharing their post as it was no far if compare to the
people liking. Around 04 Jun they have most number of people sharing and liking
the post about the Wednesday is the middle of day that wishes.More people likes
and share this post to their friends as motivate and remind Friday is coming
soon.
Report between the period 28 June to 28 July
Between the period has people unlike the Ned’s
crepes Facebook page and this result in the decreasing like on the Facebook
page as shown in the figure above. There is around 13 July from 965 likes
decrease to 938 likes which is on 28 July.
The period between 13 July and 15 July are the worst
as the net likes are negative as most people un-liking the post than the people
liking the post.. However on 23 July the net likes has increase as show the
positive trends (positive 4).
Ned’s crepes likes most of it are came from their
fans seeing the post on the Facebook page. Thus at this period they are more
through the page .Using mobile phone, page suggestions, search are least for
this periods.
This show that the highest post reach is around the
periods 25 July as Ned’s crepe start to upload the videos to engage their followers.
The first video is about two funny and cute baby. On 29 July Ned’s crepes
posted a video about how their crepes are made and this would definitely engage
their fans.
This shows that the Ned’s crepes fans seeing their
post on Facebook. As the graph bar shows most of their fans will online and see
their page on Fridays. I think this is because people think that the next day
is weekends and can stay up all night and online.
The last one is the best post types of the Ned’s
crepes. The best post types of Ned’s crepe are videos. Videos have 1.3K average
reached and average engagement for post clicks are 162.There have 41 people
which are likes, comments and shares the videos posted on Facebook. For photo,
there are also have average 325 people see the photo, 41 post clicks and 10
likes ,comments and shares the photos. Therefore, the Ned’s crepes fans like to
watch videos instead of photos. I think that Ned’s crepe can post more videos
about their products because this way might could help them to increase the
sales simultaneously.
From this two report, I would like to make a summary.
As most of the Ned’s crepes fans like to watch videos instead of the photo. I
think that we can make a video about the story of the boss and what could
actually motivate him to start his own business and at the same time to carry
out promotion to increase the awareness of the Ned’s crepes.
This is end of my analysis:)
Signing off

Practical 4-summary
At the beginning, from finding a suitable company and worked with them, it is a good experience as I learn how to communicate with different type of people in different companies. On the journey finding a company, we will go down all the shop together as a group to show our sincerity. On 26 April we go down Cold Store Creamery located at the City Link Mall and approached to the manager and I took a responsibility on stated that could have the permission to promote their company using social media platform. Unfortunately, the manager rejected because they already had their own marketing teams. But we all take this as an experience and moved forward to the next company. There was a CA2 project that we need to do a research to an oversea company and a local company about the strategies they used in their social media platform and we can learn all those strategies to make use in our company. Ryan and I doing the oversea company, and I created a task list to assign our work. The company that we are choose is called Mother's Crepe and Cafe Philippines(Mazazu Crepe).Through the researched I found that they are very active on their Facebook's page and Instagram if compare to their Tweeter. They will use different type of strategies to engage their customers and keep launching different flavour of crepes to attract their customers. I think that it is a good ideas to draw different age group of customers because this will increase customers chooses on the crepes.
In our Facebook's page, I had posted a picture of a cute dog on 9 June. The aim is to entertain the followers so as to brighten up their day. I think that this picture can improve by making use of photoshop so that it will look more nicer and attractive.
The second post that i posted was the funny laughing quotes on 29
June. From all those quotes, i found out that not all the quotes is suitable to
post on our Facebook's page.I think that i can improve it by posting some
quotes that is related to our products. So that, people are able to know what we
are trying to bring up at the same time to promote our products.
The third post that i posted was menus with the price stated.By
re-updating the menu, the followers who were not able to catch the previous post
of the menu can now view the menu.In this way ,they will be able to know of
what flavour does Ned's crepes sells as well as its price of each
crepe.
The last post that i posted was the photo of store. This photo aims
to remind again the customers the location of our shop at the same time to
promote again our company.I think that i can improve by creating an album add
some picture of Ned's crepes products together with this photo because when the
people click inside they will automatically click for the next.
PRACTICAL 4
When we first heard that we had to choose a company that we were to work with, we first thought it was a joke as how were we supposed to approach a random company and ask if we could advertise for them when we have no qualifications. The first day after we formed our group, we immediately went down to different shops close to Singapore to begin asking. I was not surprised that many had turned us down. We went back home and decided on a few that was further away but had a higher chance for us to be able to work with them. The day we went to Ned's Crepe was the day we were very happy. As they were ready to work with us.
We are very lucky to have an understanding consultant and manager to work with. When we were busy with our other assignments, they understood and gave us more time for us to plan our ideas for the company. Even when our ideas were not the best, the consultant stepped in to help us improve on our ideas. When we went down to try the Crepe the manager was nice enough to let us eat the Crepe for free. My group and I appreciate their kindness and understanding that they showed to us. It is amazing how what we learn in class can be immediately implemented on a real company and see the effect on it. How a young group of students can make a small positive impact on a company just by applying what is being taught in class.
I contributed to this project by contacting the manager and consultant through text and emails. For example when we wanted to meet them, I would ask them if they were free or when we wanted some feedback on the posters, I would email them asking about it. I posted a video on the Facebook page on how a crepe was made in another country. Even though I cannot really use Photoshop that well or take good pictures, so I contributed by staying up with syafiq into the night when he was doing the poster and gave him some images that he could use for the poster. For the national day poster i gave him the idea of getting the discount from wearing red and the giveback to children in the children day poster.
For the reward card, I gave him the idea of using the letters used in the name Ned's Crepe for the back of the reward card. During the video recording, I helped Syafiq take a video from another angle and helped him take care of his lenses and whenever he needed them. For the presentation slides, I helped by checking on the language used and correcting it when necessary. Also checked if the flow of the slides was alright. This may not be a huge contribution but this is the best of my capabilities that I can give to my group members and to this project.
I had a splendid time working with this group even though we had our small misunderstandings here and there. It was a fruitful and an unforgettable experience. Hope to have more of such opportunities in the near future.

Practical 4 - SYAFIQ
At first, when we were told that we were supposed to scramble for a company and promote it, i was pretty hesitant and thought that we, being just year 1 students, whom does not have any prior experience with the marketing world; would never be able to find one or worse yet, not be able to value add to the company.
However we were managed to find a company, which was Ned's Crepes and after working for a while, i realized that i was completely wrong. We have managed to execute so many different kinds of strategies that would/ have helped promote the company. Apart from that, we are indeed really happy that the manager and consultant of the company were really nice and that they are always really understanding. For example, even though in some instances where we were short of the dateline on a particular task, they would always say that it was fine as they knew we still had other projects and assignments to do. However we did not want to take their kindness for granted so we have always tried our best to keep to our word whenever a date of a particular task have been assigned. There was even once instance where both the manager and consultant went all the way down to Singapore Poly just to meet us and discuss on the execution plans as they did not want to trouble us. Hence, i am really grateful to be working with such nice people.
After securing the company and discussing with both the manager and consultant, i created a new Facebook page for Ned's crepes even though they already have a page as i wanted to have a fresh start as the page's last post was made 3 years back.
Then on the May 23rd, we went down to the store and i took some photos of their crepes and the process of making it as i wanted their Facebook page to have a cover that not only is catchy, but to showcase their fresh made crepes!
Here is the cover mentioned:
Once we have fully set-up their new page, we took turns to regularly post something up that was either fun or related.
Here are some of the posts that i posted:
Practical 4 -SYAFIQ (Continuation)
On the May 15th, after discussing with the manager and consultant, i tried to design a reward card for Ned's Crepes.
Here is the design:
However after we sent it for approval, the consultant said that it was not a really good design as it lacks the "Oomph" factor.
Hence, i had another go to design another one.
Here it is now:
After submitting this design to the manager and consultant, were we delighted to have them complimenting and say that the design is really nice and that they really liked the concept on how the reward system works on the card itself. Hence, I would like to thank my members Verghese, Jing Ting, Ryan and Aricia for staying up till late at night with me on Skype just to input ideas on designing the Reward Card.
On the July 28th, Verghese and I went down to their store to shoot a video as we wanted to create a video that would educate the public on how Ned's make their Crepes.
Here is the link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFF7dn1LBCs
For this video making, i would really like to thank Verghese for coming along with me to the store to help me take some photos and videos of behind-the-scenes as well as helping to carry and take care of my lenses while i did the shooting.
And here are some screenshots of the video created:
Since the manager and consultant said that they were not keen to hold out any promotions/ campaigns due to the fact that they were holding out a renovation for the store and that since the revenue of the crepes are not much and that they did not want to so called 'suffer' a lesser revenue, we had no choice but to not have any promotions/ campaigns to execute. However, we did not just stop there. We still created some promotional and wish posters even though we knew it would not be used for their company officially.
Here are some of the posters that i created:
Even though i created the posters, i would like thank my members Verghese, Ryan, Jing Ting and Aricia for constantly inputing all your ideas on the different kinds of promotions and campaigns.
Overall, i feel that this whole thing is a great achievement and that am really proud that we as students are given the opportunity of a lifetime to be to able to work with a real company; having to find our own company, process of contacting them, brainstorming ways and strategies to help promote the company, having to solve problems on our own and so on. I've not only learned how to promote a company, but i have acquired a whole new set of skills in marketing.
Comments for my fellow team mates:
Verghese:
"Hey Verghs!! From the start, you have been the one with the highest enthusiasm level and one with tons of ideas! Thank you so much for all your contributions you have made in this group! And not to forget, all the help you've given me i.e. going all the way down to the store to keep me company and help me to hold and take care of my lens when in need. Thank you for always wanting to be on Skype to help me with the poster designs even at 4am in the morning! You are a great team member and it has been a pleasure to work with you!"
Aricia:
"Hey Aricia!! You have always wanted things to be done fast. This is in fact a really good thing as in this project, you are the one who've always been motivating and spurring us to complete a certain task within the dateline. Although you may be a little pushy at times, i still appreciate it at the end of the day. I am so used to doing things at the very last minute and I know that I really have to change as this bad habit might just be to my own detrimental at the end of the day i.e. not being able to complete a particular task on time and having my grades discounted. Overall, it has been a great experience to work with you!"
Jing Ting:
"Hey Jing Ting! You have always been the one with a great sense of humor and one with lots of stories to share. Although you may be a little cranky at times, i totally understand as you seem to face some problems here and there at times. However it has been a great pleasure having you in the team! Thank you so much to take the initiative in helping me out to make things right whenever i may seem to fall out at times. i.e. helping to re-arrange the assigned slides presentation and even helping to compile the final presentation slides, knowing that i was pretty busy with some other things such as the poster designs and so on! You are a great team member to have!"
Ryan:
"Hey Ryan! You never fail to find the funny side in everything! You constantly joke around, even when the situation requires you to be serious. However, this is the quality that i really admire about you as we as humans should never just be so serious all the time.. It'll make you a boring person to be with. So, thank you so much for always being the clown. You always tend to enlighten the whole scene and mood! Apart from this, you have contributed have made a lot of effort in running this whole project. Thank you once again and i would really love to work with you again in future projects!"
