Practical four

In the beginning, as a new year 1 student I was excited on embarking this new journey of learning Social Media Marketing(SMM). Upon hearing the module SMM, it interested me the most from the other modules that I take. I was really really keen to be able to learn new things from this module. However, on the first lesson, after knowing that we had to form groups and look for companies to help promote and advertise their company, I was taken aback. It was something new for all of us.  We did not want to let this shock hinder our progress and we started searching for companies.

I contributed by suggesting two companies located at Bugis+ to work with, Lavina and Le Bunny Bleu respectively. They were new companies that are new in the market so if we were to offer our services to help them promote and advertise their company for them without paying, I knew that they would not mind. Also we did search for other companies, as we would prefer to select and work with a certain company as a group. It would be pretty selfish if I had force them to select the recommendations that I had made.

At the end of the day, we decided to go with Jingting's recommendation of Ned's Crepe. We felt that they had great potential but they lack advertisements and due to its location, not many would know of its presence. Ned's Crepe which is located at the heart of Bugis Street are able to attract many young customers as Bugis Street is filled with shops ranging from accessories to clothing. When we started working with Ned's Crepe we were very nervous, as we were afraid of the expectations that were to be set by the manager and consultant. But turns out that all of us were wrong, after this few months of working with them, they were really understanding and they did not set any expectations for us to meet. They worked with what we provided and told us how to improve them from time to time. We would always sit down and discuss together about any new ideas or plans that we are interested to execute.

I also contributed by posting regularly of Facebook and coming up with some ideas for the posters. As the four of us were not that excellent with Photoshop, even after Syafiq teaching us the basics we decided that we all brainstorm for ideas together and Syafiq would help create the posters for the manager and consultant to access it. As for the reward card, I came out with the suggestion whereby customers after buying three crepes would be able entitled to a 50 cents discount, and after buying six crepes, they would be entitled to a free crepe and after buying nine crepes, they would then be entitled to a free meal. As the consultant wanted us to create a reward card which would be engaging and interactive, I used this idea which I had seen from many other reward cards from various companies. Then, as a group, we decided to implement this idea and tweak it a bit before finally deciding on how our reward card system would be like and how the overall reward card would look like.
